The Best Time of Day For A Baby Shower

Organizing a baby shower can be an enjoyable experience, but it requires careful planning and decision-making. Among the various aspects to consider, one important factor is determining the most suitable time of day to schedule the event. In addition to selecting a theme and setting a date, choosing the right timing for the baby shower is essential. To ensure a successful celebration, it’s important to take into account several factors when deciding on the date and time for the baby shower.

How Long Does a Baby Shower Last?

Typically, baby showers have a duration of 2 to 3 hours. However, I prefer to keep them within a 2-hour timeframe. It’s important to note that if you intend to include games or have a significant number of gifts to open collectively, the event may extend beyond the usual duration.

When To Throw A Baby Shower

Typically, a baby shower is held around the 32nd week of pregnancy, but this is not a strict rule. The ideal timeframe for a baby shower is between 26 and 34 weeks, although you can choose a time that suits you best. Hosting the baby shower during this period has several benefits, such as having a prominent baby bump for photo opportunities and feeling comfortable enough in your pregnancy to enjoy the event. However, if you wait too long and approach your due date, there is a risk of the baby being born before the shower.

Things to Consider

Day of the week

Hosting a baby shower on a Saturday or Sunday is the usual practice, as these days are generally more convenient for attendees who have time off from work or school and can readily join a daytime celebration.

Nevertheless, if you’re organizing a baby shower on a weeknight, it might be beneficial to contemplate scheduling it for a later time of day.

Consider the guest list

Consider the individuals who will be attending the baby shower and take their schedules into account. If some of the guests have young children who typically nap in the afternoon, it may be more convenient to plan the event for the morning.

Are guests traveling far?

If you have guests who are traveling for the baby shower, it’s important to schedule the event at a time that allows them sufficient time to travel without it being too early or too late. Consider providing a window of time that allows them to comfortably drive to and from the event.

Remember the venue

If you choose to rent a party space for your baby shower, keep in mind that the timing of your event will be determined by the availability and operating hours of the venue.

Ask the expecting parents

When you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to consult with the guest of honor and ask if they have any specific time preferences for the baby shower.

Nothing will be perfect for everyone

Keep in mind that it’s impossible to please everyone. There will be people who RSVP “no” to the baby shower, and that’s perfectly okay!

When is The Best Time of Day For A Baby Shower?

Lunchtime 11am-1pm

Midday is a customary choice for hosting a baby shower. It offers flexibility in terms of preparation and cleanup and falls within a convenient timeframe. Nevertheless, if you opt for a lunchtime event, it’s important to provide a substantial meal rather than just finger foods. This can be more expensive and require additional effort to organize.

Morning – 9am-11am

Morning baby showers are highly favored, especially among guests with young children who have nap times during the afternoon. Morning showers often feature finger foods, but they can also adopt a delightful brunch theme, adding a touch of excitement to the event.

However, one drawback of a morning shower is the limited time available for prepping tasks such as cooking, decorating, or accommodating guests who may need to travel to attend the celebration.

Afternoon – 1pm-3pm

I personally find the afternoon to be the most favorable time to host parties, and I believe it is an excellent choice for a baby shower.

By opting for an afternoon baby shower, you can focus on serving light snacks and have ample time to leisurely set up and decorate beforehand.

Additionally, the advantage of an afternoon gathering is that guests who are reconnecting at the event can extend their time together by heading out for drinks or dinner afterward. It’s always enjoyable to spend quality time with friends whom we don’t often get to see!

Evening – 6pm-8pm

While an evening baby shower may not be the conventional choice, it can be a great option depending on the specific circumstances. For instance, if you’re aiming for a more casual, BBQ-style party, particularly one that includes both men and women, an evening time slot can be perfect for setting the ambiance.

Choosing an evening baby shower allows you to create a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, where guests can enjoy the festivities in a more informal setting.

If you decide to host a baby shower in the evening, it’s important to keep in mind that serving a full and satisfying dinner would be expected. Given the timing of the event, guests would likely come with the expectation of enjoying a substantial meal as part of the celebration.

The key aspect of hosting a baby shower is to ensure that the expectant mother feels cherished and supported. By prioritizing her well-being and happiness, you can ensure that the event is a success and create a memorable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.
